Six members of an Aeta community died, four survived and three remained missing after a motorboat carrying 13 passengers capsized in Mapanuepe Lake in San Marcelino, Zambales, authorities said.

The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon, August 27, near the Sunken Church in Barangay Buhawen. The Philippine Coast Guard said the fatalities included three adults and three minors.

Search for the missing

The Coast Guard joined municipal disaster personnel, police and other responders in searching for the missing passengers. Underwater and surface operations were repeatedly disrupted on Friday by worsening weather and were suspended again in the afternoon.

The passengers were members of an Aeta community in Sitio Lumibao and were returning from Barangay Buhawen after receiving food and medicine and attending a vaccination program, according to the Coast Guard.
