Russia launched more than 70 missiles and about 280 drones in an overnight assault, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. At least nine people were reported killed, including children, with Kyiv, Lviv and other areas affected.
Civilian damage
Officials reported damage to homes, a school and kindergartens. In a village in the Dnipropetrovsk region, six people, including three children, were killed in a missile strike. Reuters said it could not independently verify every battlefield claim.
The air-defense problem
Ukraine said its defenses intercepted many incoming weapons but stopped only one of nine ballistic missiles. Zelenskiy again argued that delays in anti-ballistic missile supplies were costing lives.
